PUPPPY : TIPS AND ADVICE

Dogs are among the cutest things on the planet. But that cute little thing can turn your life upside down and make it somewhat nightmarish before you even know it.
In my case, I was so blinded by my affection for dogs that I undermined the challenges of bringing  it up, to a great extent.

I  get asked a lot of basic questions about bringing home a puppy. So here are some tips and advice that I learned while raising Cocoa . I mean I'm still learning but there is a great deal I'd like to share with those of you who are interested to get a puppy in the future.

  1.  I LIVE IN AN APARTMENT. IS IT POSSIBLE TO HOUSE A DOG WITHOUT A LAWN?

Yes. Dogs adapt easily and they don't care where you live. As long as they are being exercised and taken out for their business  they are more than satisfied. So space isn't an issue at all.

      2.  HOW MANY TIMES DO I NEED TO FEED MY PUP?

THIS WAS PRESCRIBED FOR COCOA WHEN HE WAS A PUPPY.

THEN IT WAS CHANGED TO THIS ONE WHEN HE GREW A LITTLE OLDER.

Well, puppies are initially fed in every four hours till the 6th month. Depending on the dog breed the vet then instructs you about the quantity to be given.
Cocoa is 9 months old and is fed 4 times a day only.

       3. WHEN DO I START TRAINING MY PUP?

Since the day you bring it home. A puppy learns and picks up way faster than his adult version. Whatever he learns in those early months stays with him for a lifetime. So you better potty train it from day one.

COCOA WAS REALLY TINY WHEN WE BROUGHT HIM. SO A COLLAR WITH A BELL WAS ESSENTIAL ONLY TO PREVENT STEPPING ON HIM IF HE EVER HAPPENED TO STAND BEHIND ME WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE.
EVERYWHERE HE WENT THIS BELL WOULD TINKLE WITH HIM. IT WAS SUPER CUTE.

    4.  HOW TO POTTY TRAIN MY PUP?
This is something I found very challenging. The key thing is to get rid of the pee/poop and the smell your pup has left in its spot. For that, wipe that spot with baking powder and vinegar to remove the stench and discard the used tissue. This will ensure that your puppy doesn't go back to its spot in your home.
Initially taking it out in every 30 minutes is advised . As and when your puppy grows the time interval can be increased to 4-5 hours.Basically every time it eats and drinks , after playing and after a nap, it will have to be taken out for its business.

WHENEVER COCOA OBEYS ANY COMMAND WE TREAT HIM WITH THIS AND HE ABSOLUTELY LOVES IT. THIS IS ONE OF THE TREATS HE LIKES .

5 . MY PUPPY IS TEETHING AND DESTROYING EVERYTHING.

SOME OF THESE TOYS ARE AN EXCELLENT DISTRACTION FOR YOUR PUPPY. COCOA HAS HIS OWN SET OF FAVOURITE TOYS BUT THERE WERE ONES THAT HE REFUSED TO PLAY WITH AND IT WAS A COMPLETE WASTE.

This is very normal. Give it a set of toys to play with and destroy, at least that will keep it away from your things. They stop being destructive as they grow up. Just like you baby proof your house you sort of need to do that for your pup because for them everything is new and edible and that can be harmful or even sometimes fatal for your pup.

These are very basic topics that I touched upon. I have made tons of mistakes with Cocoa but that is what has  taught me and helped me understand so much more. So it is okay to make mistakes, don't beat yourself up  for it. Having a dog was certainly tough and challenging but I don't think I would have it any other way. Cocoa is the best thing that has ever happened to me. So don't be scared and enjoy the experience. It's amazing.

Until I see you next time. Bye :) xx

SAY HI TO COCOA

On 15th December, 2015,  a mischievous little goof ball that I instantly fell in love with was born. Amongst the litter, he was the first one to come running into my lap and feel the warmth of my jeans that I was wearing.

It was not until  29th, January, 2016 that we brought him to his new home. It still seems like yesterday when my little 'cocoa' coloured baby came home and my life changed forever.

Until I see you next time, Bye. :)
